On June 19, TeamSmile provided complimentary oral health assessments and treatment to more than 300 underserved children at Neyland Stadium, home of the University of Tennessee’s football team—the Tennessee Volunteers—in Knoxville.

“TeamSmile is a very important program that Team Schein is proud to be a part of. This year’s event with the University of Tennessee is particularly special. We have been working diligently with Dustin Colquitt, punter for the Kansas City Chiefs, former Tennessee Vols teammate, and TeamSmile spokesperson and our partners at the university for years to finally make this happen,” said Mr. Krause.
The children who attended this event received dental treatments, such as X-rays, fillings, cleanings, and sealants, in a fun and nonthreatening environment, thanks to product and equipment donations from Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. Additionally, the children were educated on the significance of good oral hygiene and given instructions about proper brushing and flossing techniques. They were accompanied by student athletes, mascots, and cheerleaders from the college football team.

As a special surprise, attendees were greeted by Butch Jones, head coach of the Volunteers. He and his players talked about the importance of oral health and its link to overall health.
“It is exciting to see the outreach from a community to support such an important event, Henry Schein Regional Manager Brad Fine said. “The Tennessee Henry Schein team worked hard to recruit an outstanding group of doctors, hygienists, assistants, and office staff. This group made it an exceptional experience for everyone involved. I am humbled by the group’s commitment to the cause. Just as impressive were the Volunteers team and coaches. They were awesome with the kids and made it so much fun. They were great at comforting the kids during treatment, playing games with them on the field, and they sure know how to throw a dance party!”
“Henry Schein helped create TeamSmile and, for the last eight years, has been a major corporate sponsor,” echoed Mr. Krause. “For us to have a celebration event in Dustin’s hometown made us all feel like we have seriously accomplished something. I have to give all the credit to Brad Fine and Henry Schein’s Knoxville center, because if it wasn’t for their tenacity to get volunteers in the door, kids would have gone untreated. What a great day for all TSMs across the country. We should all be proud of how awesome of a company we work for!”
Throughout the year, Henry Schein supports TeamSmile events that are hosted at the home of NFL, MLB, NBA, and college teams across the U.S. to provide area children with treatment and instruction in a fun environment while promoting the significance of good dental hygiene and the importance of oral health to total health.
